Michaela Onyenwerelay- 2018 Inductee

That ís why in the era of increased specialization, the accomplishments of Michaela Onyenwerelay of Grandview deserve the spotlight. Not only did Onyenwerelay complete one of the best basketball careers in a state history, she made a significant impact in track and field for the Wolves, too.

As a senior on the basketball court last March, the 5-foot-11 Michaela led Grandview to a 27-1 record and its first Colorado High School Activities Association Class 5A championship. After averaging 20.8 points and 8.9 rebounds, she was selected as Colorado's Gatorade player of the year for the second consecutive season, recognized by MaxPreps as an All-American and participated in the McDonalds All-American Game.

Michaela also etched her name many times in the CHSAA record book, ending her basketball career as the fourth-leading scorer all-time (2,290 points) and eighth-leading rebounder (1,061), and finished in the top 10 in several other categories.

Her accomplishments on the track also were impressive, perhaps more so, given that it was her secondary sport. As a senior, Onyenwerelay finished second in the 5A 100 meters (she also finished second in the event as a junior and sophomore and sixth as a freshman), third in the 200 meters for the a second year in a row (fourth as a sophomore), and first a as part of 4x200 relay winning team.

She is continuing her basketball career at UCLA.
