Our History
The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame was created and started by Supreme Court Justice, Byron White in 1964. The First Hall of Fame Class was in 1965, honoring Earl “Dutch” Clark, Jack Dempsey, and Byron “Whizzer” White. For 37 years, the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame was no more than a board of directors operating out of the Denver Chamber of Commerce. Banquet and Selection Committees focused solely on honoring inductees each year at an annual awards dinner.
A dream was realized in 2001 when the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Museum was born at INVESCO Field at Mile High, now Empower Field at Mile High, with the help of the Metropolitan Football Stadium District.
Since then, there has been the addition of a permanent museum, a website, and the ability to raise funds through the Induction Banquet and the Golf Classic. Through these avenues, the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame can give back to the community through programs and support for youth sports.
Now in it’s 60th year, the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame is focused on honoring athletes and sports executives and contributors, based on merit, accomplishments, and contributions, and not on gender, race, religion, or quota.
Selection Process
Inductees to the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame are chosen by an independent Selection Committee composed of media representatives from throughout the State of Colorado.
